What Is a Consultation?

Know What You’re Working With Before You Spend a Dollar

Whether you’re buying a new home, planning a landscaping project, concerned about a specific tree, or just want an expert’s eyes on your property — a professional tree consultation gives you the information you need to make confident decisions.

AT’s Tree Service consultations are performed by Austin personally. He walks your entire property, evaluates every significant tree, explains what he finds in plain language, and answers all your questions before leaving.

Unbiased Expert Opinion
A consultation isn’t tied to selling you a service. Austin gives you an objective assessment of every tree on your property — what’s healthy, what’s at risk, and what actually needs work.
Prioritized Risk Assessment
Learn exactly which trees pose the greatest risk to structures, utilities, and family members — so you can address highest-priority issues first.
Written Report Available
Receive a written summary of findings, recommended actions, and priority ranking — useful for planning, budgeting, and sharing with your HOA or insurance company.
Smart Budgeting
Instead of reactive spending, a consultation lets you plan and prioritize tree work across multiple seasons — spreading costs and starting with what matters most.
When to Consult

6 Situations Where a Consultation Pays for Itself

A professional evaluation before problems develop is almost always the smarter investment.

01
Highly Recommended
Home Purchase
Don’t inherit tree problems you didn’t know about. A pre-purchase tree evaluation reveals hazards, diseased trees, and deferred maintenance — before you close.
02
Plan Ahead
Before a Construction Project
Building a deck, addition, or pool? Know which trees will be stressed by construction activity and how to protect them — before equipment rolls in.
03
Post-Storm
After a Major Storm
High winds often damage trees in ways that aren’t immediately visible — cracked scaffold limbs, root displacement, and trunk stress that won’t show symptoms for months.
04
Diagnose First
Unexplained Decline
A tree that looked fine last year and is struggling this year needs a diagnosis, not a guess. Early identification dramatically improves treatment outcomes.
05
Proactive
Planning a Landscaping Renovation
Before replanting, adding beds, or changing grade — understand how it will affect existing trees’ roots and long-term health.
06
Preventive
Routine Health Checkup
Just like an annual physical, a periodic professional assessment catches emerging issues before they become expensive problems.

A free estimate visit is focused on one specific task — ‘do I need this tree removed?’ and ‘what would it cost?’ A formal consultation is a comprehensive property evaluation covering all your trees, providing a prioritized report, and answering broader questions about long-term tree management. They serve different purposes.
We strongly prefer that you’re present so we can walk the property together, answer your questions in real time, and make sure we don’t miss anything you’re concerned about. If you can’t be there, we can still conduct the evaluation — but your presence makes it much more valuable.
Yes. If a neighbor’s tree is hanging over your property or you’re being asked to remove a tree, a professional written assessment can document the condition objectively — which is useful in conversations with neighbors, HOAs, and sometimes courts.
Never. Consultations are designed to give you information, not to upsell you. Austin will tell you honestly which trees are fine, which need monitoring, and which actually require work — whether or not AT’s Tree Service is the right company for that work.
For an average residential property (half acre, 15–25 trees), plan on 1–1.5 hours. Larger properties or those requiring a detailed written report may take 2–3 hours total including the write-up.
