Why Treat?

Your Trees Are Fighting Harder Than You Think

Landscape trees face challenges their forest counterparts don’t — compacted roots, soil replaced during construction, competition from turf, and stress from salt, drought, and pollution. These stressors weaken trees’ natural defenses, opening the door to disease and pest attack.

AT’s Tree Service offers deep-root fertilization and targeted disease treatments to diagnose problems early and correct them before they require removal. We treat the cause, not just the symptom.

Restore Soil Nutrition
Urban and suburban soils are often compacted, depleted, and lacking the microbial life that forest trees rely on. Deep-root fertilization restores this balance.
Stop Disease Before It Spreads
Early identification and targeted treatment of fungal diseases, bacterial infections, and pest infestations prevents costly removal down the road.
Increase Stress Resistance
Well-nourished trees withstand drought, pest pressure, and storm damage far better than deficient ones — reducing your long-term tree care costs.
Long-Term Value Protection
Mature trees add significant property value. Proactive health management protects that investment against preventable disease and decline.
Warning Signs

Is Your Tree Struggling? Look for These Signs

Catch disease and nutrient deficiency early — treatment is far cheaper than removal.

01
Diagnose Now
Early or Abnormal Leaf Drop
Leaves dropping in summer or early fall before normal dormancy often indicate disease, root stress, or severe nutrient deficiency.
02
Diagnose Now
Discolored or Spotted Foliage
Yellow, brown, or spotted leaves can indicate fungal disease, bacterial infection, nutrient deficiency, or root damage — each requiring different treatment.
03
Act Soon
Crown Dieback
Progressive death of the uppermost branches working downward is a classic sign of root dysfunction — often treatable if caught early.
04
Act Soon
Powdery or Sooty Coating on Leaves
Powdery mildew and sooty mold are fungal diseases that reduce photosynthesis. Treatable with targeted fungicides.
05
Inspect Now
Unusual Bark Texture or Oozing
Bacterial wetwood, cankers, and borer infestations often present as unusual discoloration, soft spots, or sap weeping from the bark.
06
Maintenance
Poor Annual Growth
If a tree that used to put out 12+ inches of growth annually is now making 2–3 inches, soil nutrition is almost certainly part of the problem.
Our Process

What to Expect From Start to Finish

Every job follows the same professional process — transparent, efficient, and clean.

1
Diagnosis & Assessment
Austin examines foliage, bark, branch tips, and soil conditions to identify the specific problem — not all yellow leaves have the same cause.
  • Foliar symptoms examined
  • Bark and root crown inspected
  • Soil compaction and drainage assessed
2
Treatment Plan
A customized plan is prepared based on the diagnosis — specifying treatment type, timing, and follow-up schedule.
  • Disease or deficiency targeted specifically
  • Product selection based on Maryland conditions
  • Seasonal timing considered for effectiveness
3
Deep-Root Fertilization (if applicable)
High-pressure injection delivers liquid fertilizer directly to the root zone — bypassing compacted topsoil to reach feeder roots.
  • Injection points spaced throughout root zone
  • Slow-release NPK formula applied
  • Mycorrhizal inoculants available
4
Disease / Pest Treatment
Fungicide, bactericide, or insecticide treatments are applied via soil injection, trunk injection, or foliar spray depending on the pathogen.
  • Target-specific products used
  • Timing based on pest/disease lifecycle
  • Retreatment scheduled if required

Deep-root fertilization uses a probe injected 6–12 inches into the soil to deliver liquid fertilizer directly to the tree’s feeder root zone. This bypasses the compacted topsoil and turf that intercept surface-applied fertilizer, delivering nutrients far more efficiently. It’s especially effective for stressed or declining trees.
Common issues we treat include: Anthracnose (sycamore, oak, dogwood), Apple scab, Powdery mildew, Fire blight (ornamental pears/crabapples), Oak wilt, Emerald Ash Borer, and various root rot fungi. Maryland’s humid summers create ideal conditions for many fungal pathogens.
Many can, if caught early enough. Trees with crown dieback affecting more than 50% of the canopy are rarely candidates for treatment — removal is often more practical. Trees with early-stage disease, nutrient deficiency, or pest pressure have a high success rate with proper treatment.
Most trees benefit from deep-root fertilization every 1–3 years depending on soil conditions and tree health. Urban trees in heavily managed lawns — where organic matter is regularly removed — typically need more frequent treatment than trees in naturalistic plantings.
We use professional-grade products applied at labeled rates. We’ll advise you on any temporary precautions (like keeping pets off treated areas for 24–48 hours while products dry). Most soil-injected treatments pose no surface contact risk.
